our history

Prelaten Kro og Scene opened in 1975 for the first time by Finn Steffen Johansen. Prelaten quickly became known to be a place for culture in Tromsø. This went on for the next 20 years. Artists from all over the world preformed on our stage, locals, tourists and students all over Norway came to be a part of. After the Prelaten closed in 1995, various concepts and events have taken place.

In 2015, Arthur and Tone Mack, the fourth generation of the original homeowners, reopened Prelaten Kro og Scene in the Soul of the Old. Today, traditional “inn” food are served, meat, fish and of course our famous reindeer burger.

Welcome to our basement filled with soul, song and dance. At Prelaten you’ll meet all different souls, there’s room for everyone. Prelaten holds about 150 events a year. Here you will meet musicians, stand-up comedians, DJs, writers, bingo hosts, just to name a few who perform on our stage to entertain the audience. In addition to entertainment, Prelaten is one of the city’s largest nightclubs. Party-loving people meet in the evenings to dance, sing or to play shuffleboard and board games.

We are lucky to have two sections in our basement. One part is used for events, and the other part where people can sit down to talk together in a calmer atmosphere. In addition to all entertainment, Prelaten also serves food, including our juicy burgers in several kinds. At Prelaten there will always be a wonderful atmosphere, welcome.
